Alex Apparels was honoured to welcome Mr. Peter Mollema, the Dutch Ambassador to Egypt, to its factory for the ‘Our Health, Our Capital’ event last month. “The visit allowed us to showcase our commitment to our workers’ health and well-being, allowing the Ambassador to observe first-hand the comprehensive measures we take to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for our employees,” said Mr. Ehab Mohi, Chairman, Alex Apparels. To date, Alex Apparels has provided family planning services to more than 2,500 women through its factory clinic; having also trained 300 factory workers as educators on the benefits and importance of family planning, and 12 factory nurses to deliver family planning counselling. Access to family planning services continues to be a serious issue in Egypt, due to cultural misconceptions, limited information and resistance from families and communities. According to UNFPA, only 30% of women in Egypt receive counselling on postnatal birth control methods, which can lead to unwanted pregnancies and health complications (UNFPA Egypt). It’s only with this access, that we can hope to improve health out comes, promoting economic stability and gender equality.
