our Story

The Alpine Group journey began in 1981 in Taiwan, when brothers Ashok and Lalu Mahtani launched their first venture in yarn trading – known as Paradise Textiles. From humble beginnings, the business has since evolved into a global ecosystem of companies - together forming Alpine Group, a leader in responsible textile and apparel solutions.

Guided by a vision to create fashion that not only looks good but does good, we are driven by a clear mission: to positively impact people, the planet, and the industry. Every challenge is an opportunity to reimagine how fashion is made - embracing innovation, advancing sustainability, and creating long-term value.

With over four decades of expertise, we now operate 15+ facilities across more than 10 markets worldwide, spanning the entire apparel lifecycle - from concept to delivery. Through the integration of technical excellence and responsible manufacturing, we reduce environmental impact while empowering our team members.

This legacy of innovation and integrity makes Alpine Group the partner of choice for brands seeking ethical, high-performance solutions. Together, we are co-creating the future of fashion - delivering meaningful progress for our creations, our communities, and our shared world.

Ashok Mahtani

Co-Founder and Chair

Ashok believes that making the world a better place is everyone’s responsibility. His personal ambition, and that of the company he co-founded 40 years ago, is to produce materials and apparel with the least impact to the planet. He loves the process of finding creative solutions to problems and sees creativity as central to Paradise Textiles’ ambition to be the world’s most impactful producer of sustainable materials.

“Paradise is a mindset that lives in every moment, every action and every connection we make. It’s the ambition behind our cutting-edge research on sustainability, performance and advanced manufacturing, and is our inspiration to reinvent the fabric of fashion.”
Lewis Shuler

VP of Advanced Concepts

Lewis, our Head of Innovation, is the driving force behind the business's unique and forward thinking approach. “Paradise is pushing at the boundaries of materials technology, helping to inspire brands and suppliers across the world as we all strive to build a better world for our children. I’m focused on raw material and advanced manufacturing innovations that help bring textiles to the world more responsibly by prioritizing a reduction of waste, water, energy, and pollution.”

Splitting his time between Shanghai and California, he leads the drive toward environmentally responsible textile design and creation. That involves working with other global leaders in the fashion industry, forging partnerships on emerging technologies in raw materials, textile chemistries and advanced manufacturing processes.
Sunil Prakash

General Manager, Fabrics and Yarns

With 27 years at Paradise under his belt, Sunil drives the business forward by meeting our customers’ needs for good value and top quality fabrics and trims. He attributes his success in delivering on this to the supportive and collaborative team culture and the company-wide keenness to embrace change.

A keen badminton player, Sunil’s always enthusiastic about learning new skills, professionally and personally, that’ll improve society for everyone. “Being involved in more sustainable production initiatives is really important to me. It’s part of my responsibility towards mankind and the earth.”
Achala Herath

Senior Technical Manager, Textiles

Achala is driven by the need to innovate in everything he does and is constantly focussed on the needs of Paradise's partners, identifying new innovation opportunities, exploring technical advantage and developing bespoke materials solutions. He’s been involved in the development of inventive fabric collections for brands like Nike, Lululemon, Decathlon and Victoria’s Secret – all of which resulted in significant business growth.

“I’m particularly proud of my work on SheerFuze and been part of the development team of the Nulux range for Lululemon.” Achala is inspired by nature and different cultures. “Our current work is all about reducing our carbon footprint, conserving water and reducing energy emissions. I’m proud to be a part of something that can change the world for the better.”
Sheena Mahtani

Vice President, Product Development

As Vice President of Product Development, Sheena works tirelessly to share the Paradise vision and to help our partners create beautiful products. Her bywords are innovation, sustainability and accessibility. “It takes a lot to derail me from my mission. And my mission is to see our partners prosper and grow.”

She has a fervent belief in the power of competition and collaboration to drive continuous improvement throughout the fashion industry. “I have my eyes firmly fixed on consumer sentiments in color, prints, style and materials, helping our partners to deliver the right items, at the right price, and at the right time.”
Clare Woodford

Vice President – Sustainability and Impact

Putting purpose and impact right at the heart of the Alpine brand, Clare drives sustainability initiatives across the Group’s operations globally and is the foremost advocate of making fashion fit for the future. Having started her career in fashion before establishing a prolific track record in managing global luxury and hospitality brands, Clare passionately believes in bringing change to the business of fashion by educating brands and consumers alike. As a woman in leadership, she finds meaning in empowering other women, who make up a considerable proportion of the textile and apparel manufacturing workforce worldwide.

“The fashion industry needs to transform itself the way the food industry has. Just as we now expect to know where our food comes from, it’s high time that we deepen our understanding and appreciation of the source and impact of what we wear. Our position as a textile innovator and manufacturer allows us to positively impact the entire supply chain and contribute to such sweeping systemic change. This is what gets me out of bed every morning.”
Paolo Sala

Director, Business Development

Paolo is responsible for expanding Paradise’s portfolio of clients by tailoring solutions for some of the world’s most dynamic apparel brands. A cosmopolitan textile expert who hails from Como, Italy and has lived in Hong Kong for years, Paolo combines first-hand technical know-how with a penchant for forging winning partnerships with global customers. He is passionate about finding the best solutions by leveraging his extensive network of industry relationships.

“I started from scratch in textiles – working in dyeing houses, labs and R&D – all of which has given me deep technical knowledge that I’m proud to share, because I love being on the frontline with the most innovative and sustainable materials. At the same time, connecting with brands goes beyond offering the best available technology; excellent service and strong relationships are key to sustaining fruitful, longstanding commercial partnerships.”
